Constellation Project Led by Addionics Receives UKRI Funding

On Jan 31, Addionics, a developer of the next generation rechargeable batteries with 3D architecture and engineering, announced that it will receive a share of £27.6 million in funding from the UK Research and Innovation’s Faraday Battery Challenge. Addionics is part of the Project Constellation, one of 17 projects awarded UKRI funding to enable competitiveness across the battery value chain.

Project Constellation is a further development of Project STELLAR which aims to use AI-integrated Smart 3D Electrodes technology to optimize battery performance and manufacturing efficiency for the electric vehicle (EV) market at TRL7 and above. The project takes Smart 3D Electrodes technology to the next generation, addressing the reduction of development and production costs, while improving performance. In collaboration with CPI, James Durrans Group, and the University of Warwick, this 2-year project will drive already advanced battery technology towards full commercialization.

Farid Tariq Ph.D, CTO and Co-founder of Addionics, explains, “Constellation builds on the success of STELLAR, taking it beyond basic tests and towards industrially relevant scales. We are excited because it integrates our technology with that of world leaders in coating with world leaders in coating and manufacturing, and active material fabrication (WMG, CPI, James Durran). This shows how our very smartly designed and structured current collectors can fit into a viable battery ecosystem and provide it with benefits from our technology. This is readily transferable knowledge and will push the creation of new methods to overcome modern limitations of batteries and fabrication.”

Automobility Ltd is proud that its EXCELerate portfolio company Addionics has become an official partner of the Constellation Project to enhance the manufacturing efficiency, performance, and environmental impact of lithium-ion cells through the use of Smart 3D Electrodes.
